Input Output IO Operator

The input/output person at an effects house is one step up from a production assistant (unless there's no PA, in which case you might have to get the coffee as well). I/O people are the record keepers and the organizers. Using computers, the I/O staff is responsible for logging and categorizing everything that comes into the shop. They'll create databases for every effects shot, letting the compositors know how many frames they have to work with, and keep track of the progress being made for each shot.

When a movie such as Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams has more than a thousand different effects, that's a lot to keep track of. If you have a good knowledge of UNIX and a mind that can focus on small details, then this may be the perfect place for you to break in.
