Once the animators are done, or even while they're still finishing up, the modeler comes in and brings lifelike touches such as skin and hair to the creation. The modeler sometimes even has to worry about clothes. For Stuart Little 2, the modeler worked with the costume designer to make sure the mouse was dressed appropriately.

In addition to characters, modelers are also responsible for CGI backgrounds. If the film's sets are computer generated, then the modelers must add the details, such as tapestries on the walls of a palace or the soot and grime of a derelict spaceship.

A background in art is essential here, as well as knowing computer painting software. When you're blending pixels on your palette, knowing as much as you can about the way things look in real life will help you re-create them on the computer.
