Entrances

Entrances of characters into a film share some of the same duties as reveals, but they have a specific job to do: that of introducing the character to the audience, presenting a "sketch" of who they are — personality, social/economic group, and so on — or a hint of the character's psychology, such as whether they are happy or sad; or their dramatic function (friend or foe). The entrance also announces to the audience whether or not the character is someone who will play a significant role in your story. You do not want your principal characters to "slide" into the film. Announce them!
